Ghosts, zombies, aliens, stories and adventures of the unexplained. That’s what we’re about here in Mosquito Springs, a little town about 60 miles east of Dallas. We’ve been told we’re a combination of comedy fiction storytelling and armadillo beef jerky made by space aliens in a haunted house with a NASCAR racer on blocks in the front yard. So our town is just like yours – mostly normal.

Big D started this podcast in June 2021 as “Front Porch Crazy”, but changed it to Mosquito Springs, the supernatural town where he lives in Texas, after confusion with other front porch podcasts where people were podcasting “preachy things, sporty things, nudie things, and I don’t know what all” as Bobby Ray says. More on Big D’s sidekick and the other townsfolk below.

We hope you enjoy our podcast. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know on the contact form. And you can always leave a tip in the Tip Jar if you hear or see something you like, or you’d just like to send a virtual hug to everyone.

Michael Sessums

He’s the creator, writer, producer, and voice actor for the Mosquito Springs podcast, and is everyone in Mosquito Springs. He’s flown planes, operated trolleys, has a long silky mane and looks good in a fedora.

Big D

Host of the Mosquito Springs Podcast. Childhood friend of Bobby Ray and Winston. He was born in Dallas, that’s in Texas, and somehow the Big D name stuck. Always friendly and happy. He’s glad to meet anyone. He love his family, animals, all kinds of music, and driving his four wheel drive truck.

Bobby Ray

He’s Big D’s co-host and childhood friend. Bobby Ray restores classic trucks and 4x4s, or as he puts it, he’s a shade tree mechanic for daily drivers. He’s married to Nadine and they have two kids – Wayne Bob and Wanda Bob. His Aunt Ida and Uncle Jerry Bob were married in Tijuana because of bacon grease. Aunt Ida makes some great deviled eggs with Aunt Slidell’s Jack Daniels recipe. Bobby Ray got to talk with Aunt Slidell when him and Winston got caught in the spirit realm after doing some ghost busting with Joe Cletus, Cletus Joe and Big D at the old Skinner House. Drumstick and Goat Rider are two of his best roosters. Bobby Ray’s best friend is Chuck Norris – the dog, not the Texas Ranger.

Winston

A New Age herbalist, Winston is friend to everyone, easy going and super responsible with a great job down at the Double Barrel Bra Boutique. He fell in love with Lady Ganja while working there. She’s a possessed mannequin. And she gives him positive reinforcement for his goals and life quest. He took her down to South Padre Island for some sun bathing, fish tacos and surfing. Winston is expert in childbirth, knows how to clear evil spirits and bad vibes, and has been ordained to marry people in Texas and Bermuda. He has some shrapnel in his shoulder, which came in handy while battling poultrygeists at Bobby Ray’s house.

Joe Cletus

Twin to Cletus Joe. He has a deep booming voice with a slight Texas twang, and loves everything Big Tex, the mascot of the State Fair of Texas since time immortal. He’s an inventor and ghost hunter. Seems he gets the boys out of scrapes a lot.

Cletus Joe

Twin to Joe Cletus. He has a tenor voice with a British accent. He loves Faulty Towers, Benny Hill and just about any British mystery series. Great at organizing and ghost busting.

Angus “Fergus” McFergus

Call him Fergus, not Angus. Not sure why, but he prefers it. Fergus fought alongside Robert the Bruce for Scottish independence. Oh, Fergus is a kilt-wearing ghost. His spirit got attached to Bobby Ray when him and Winston got stuck in the ghost dimension out in Sutter’s Woods. I probably should have led with that.

Lyle Deadmun

Lyle works at the Restful Pines Mortuary and Cemetery as the town mortician. He doubles as the local medical examiner and is rumored to have conducted a seance or two with the dearly departed. He says he can tell how a person died just by talking to them. And he gets answers. One of his best workers was buried three times, but it didn’t take. So now he works for Lyle. He said he’s got spunk.

Sensei Bob

Dojo Master of the Kick and Claw Karate Dojo over in Gun Barrel City. His real name before his journey to study in Japan was Melvin Fakemun. He sounds like an Asian sensei to the public, but uses that to hide his squeaky voice so people will take him seriously. His dojo has battled ghost warriors – and won.

Mr. Tab

He’s been the mailman for Mosquito Springs as long as anyone can remember. Rumors are he’s older than anyone in the Restful Pines Cemetery. Now that’s pretty old. Always happy and ready for a friendly chat or a game of dominoes. He’s had at least one alien abduction experience he’s shared with the boys. He’s sure there was anal probing.

Mayor Cliff “Cliffy” Underhand

The illustrious mayor of Mosquito Springs. He drives a Lincoln Navigator and dreams of being Texas Governor. A confirmed bachelor, but always hopeful, the Sherrie Navigator got him lost in Sutter’s Woods where he got poked with a stick by Bigfoot. He giggled.

Clarita

She works at the Mosquito Springs Space Port and went into labor and had a baby at the orientation meeting the same time as Mary Joe. She had a very normal childbirth and a healthy baby. Clarita’s was the first to cross the finish line. She had a beautiful baby girl at 19 inches and 7-1/2 pounds. Winston delivered her baby.

Mary Joe

She works at the Mosquito Springs Space Port and went into labor and had a baby at the orientation meeting at the same time as Clarita. Winston delivered both of their babies. Mary Joe’s was a healthy baby, too. A baby alien with webbed toes. A lot of us are wondering how’d that happen. Even Mary Joe. Was it an alien abduction? An alien boyfriend masquerading as a human? Maybe even a Shapeshifter?
